Enabling domain locking for security
Lock your domain to block unauthorised transfers away from your account.
A domain lock (registrar lock) prevents your domain from being transferred to another registrar without your explicit action. It is a simple, effective defence against domain hijacking.
Turning it on
- Open the domain and go to Security.
- Enable the registrar lock — it is on by default for new registrations.
- You only need to unlock temporarily when you deliberately transfer the domain out.
Layered protection
Combine the lock with two-factor authentication on your account and an up-to-date registrant email. Together they mean an attacker needs your credentials, your second factor, and the ability to unlock — a much harder target.
