Activating two-factor authentication

Add a second factor — an authenticator app, security key, or passkey — to protect your account.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) protects your sign-in even if your password is exposed. Because your account controls domains and DNS, enabling it is the single most important security step you can take.

Set it up

  • Go to Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication.
  • Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, or register a hardware security key or passkey.
  • Save the one-time backup codes somewhere safe in case you lose your device.

Passkeys are even better

A passkey uses your device biometrics or a security key and is resistant to phishing, because there is no code an attacker can trick you into typing. Add one under the same Security page — passwords remain as a fallback while you transition.

Store your backup codes offline. They are the way back in if you lose access to your second factor.
